How to count the costs

Count the Costs aims to encourage a systematic, rigorous and honest evaluation of current drug policies, as well as an equally open exploration of alternative approaches that may be able to deliver better outcomes. This call is necessary because the highly politicised nature of the debate has insulated the war on drugs from the kind of scrutiny it so urgently needs.

There are many analytical and evaluative tools available to assess the impacts of different drug policy approaches, backed by an extensive literature on their strengths and weaknesses. Different tools will be necessary both for different policy environments, and to answer different policy questions and give contrasting perspectives.

This section of the website gathers together analytical resources that can help guide this process. We very much welcome suggestions for resources to build up this collection.
